A new garden laid out in front of the Baroque or east front of the mansion and named after the first Head Gardener at Wentworth, John Arnold. This area once accommodated the gigantic octagonal basin and fountain which was replaced in the late 18th century by simple flowing parkland to reflect new trends in garden and landscape design at that time.
In 1709, Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford (of the 2nd creation) set out to create an estate on a grand scale to eclipse the nearby estate of his cousin and rival at Wentworth Woodhouse.
Wentworth Castle is a Grade 1 listed building and is home to the Northern College for Residential Adult Education.
Unfortunately, the contents of the House were sold off and dispersed in 1948.
Wentworth Castle Gardens & Stainborough Park is the only Grade One Listed landscape in South Yorkshire, and contains a collection of 26 listed buildings and monuments.
The estate is now in the process of being restored, and over £16m was raised to complete phase one of the restoration (2004-08). Rare formal gardens have been rediscovered, national collections of Rhododendrons, Camellias and Magnolias enhanced and over 100,000 bulbs planted.
Wentworth Castle, was the seat of the recreated Earls of Strafford.

Here’s a sneak into my backyard. My gardens have been neglected the last couple of years with all my travel and this year I am reclaiming them! I spent about 17 hours gardening last week , whew. I found this amazing vintage table and chair set this past weekend at a sale! A perfect place to relax and enjoy the yard!

A slightly overgrown herb garden in Ruhpolding, Bavaria. But I liked the angle of the sun with the white wrought iron furniture.

Majorelle Garden, founded by the French painter Jacques Majorelle in 1923. His studio built in 1931 houses a small Museum of Islamic Arts.
The garden is a green (blue and yellow) oasis in the new town of Marrakech and has groves of palms, bamboo, agave, a cactus garden and a couple of ponds.
Before his death (2008) Majorelle Garden was owned by Yves Saint Laurent.
Path with blue, green and yellow pots.

Biltmore Estate, Asheville, North Carolina, as seen on the approach from the gardens. This is only one side of this huge house. So beautiful, so memorable. I never tire of visiting this historic place. Texture from brendastarr.
