Went to Eagle River to visit the Nature Center, it’s about a 20-minute drive from Anchorage. Pristine Wilderness. All the major trails were closed due to Grizzly Bears feeding on returning salmon. I took these photographs from the viewing platform since it was as far as we could hike into the Nature Center.

There were many salmon in the river here but no Grizzly Bears. A Center Naturalist talked to us and said there were bears all over this area feeding on salmon. She said bears come to this exact area when the wind is blowing in the right direction.

Apparently when the wind blows from the viewing platform towards the mountains, the bears can smell the humans and move into other areas nearby. When the wind is blowing in the other direction, they’ll move in since they don’t smell humans.

And I guess once they’re feeding on the salmon, they don’t worry about the humans anymore! :)
